I finally feel like i have found a group who enjoys something as much as i do. i like "Tweaking" my ShopSmith Equipment as much as I do using it. It is a blast to be among such fine people here.

I looked at the indicator plate reads 0 to 5. If you don't mind my stupidity what is the difference between the 0 to 5 and the 0 to 8? I already have the legs out of electrolysis and . and a bunch of stuff already done. This 10ER is a cool machine

The early speed controls were calibrated 0 to 8. The center sliding sheave had straight sides that allowed the belt to go into the pulley all the way to the shaft. That extra 'penetration' required a longer scale(0 to 8). It turned out that that was excessive and the later ones have a shoulder on the sliding center sheave that limits the 'penetration' of the belt. Thus the range was reduced to 0 to 5. The 'numbers'(0 to 5) are located the same on both versions so there is a lot of 'empty' space above the '5'.ventrac4231 wrote:JPG

Thank you for explaining that!!! As for getting the assembly off, it was simple. Now Here is the catch. I along with members of my family restore antique farm tractors and Cat Crawlers. I have more tricks against my vest than most. patience is the key as all of you well know a little crocus cloth, a lot of WD40 and some vaseline helped.
