The computer that I have been using since my mighty gaming computer bit the dust has been acting really strange. I have been getting all sorts of fail flags, lock ups, etc. Most unusual has been a notification of a "boot failure" long after the boot process had completed successfully.
I was about to give up and go buy a new computer but decided to take one last stab at fixing this one. I turned it off, disconnected all the cables, blew it out with compressed air, reseated all of the removable card assemblies including the memory cards, hard drives and CD/DVD Drives.
It is up and running and has been now for a week with no sign of the previous problems. Strange???
If I don't log in again for awhile, you'll know what happened.
When I got it back up, I did do a complete backup just in case.

Dusty, PM me, the next time you come up here.
I'll set you up with a copy of Windows 7.

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.
Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Re: Really Flacky Computer
Thank you very much, Steve. I will keep your offer in mind but my present computer is inadequate for W7. Microsoft, when W7 first came available, had a compatibility program online. It reported that this computer would not support W7. I don't recall the specific inadequacies just that it is inadequate (probably speed - this is an oldie).skou wrote:Dusty, PM me, the next time you come up here.

PS I found the "Compatibility Report" online. It turns out that my computer would support W7 if I just cleaned up my hard drive but the software that I have loaded is, for the most part, no longer supported. One of these days I'll climb out of the dark ages and upgrade everything. Actually, I'll probably save my PDF and Photo files and just start over. I probably will no longer need the Excel budget files from the 90s.

Dusty, just get another hard drive, and run both.
Or, unplug the current one, and run it on the new
drive.
Drives are dirt cheap.
