IE sucks
Just switched from IE to Firefox. What a pleasure( so far.). I used to get the message "IE has stopped working due to a problem with this page" I would get this 4 or 5 times every time I opened IE and went to my home page. IE kept loading a tab called "blank page". No one could find where it was coming from or prevent it from loading. my ISP suggested to change browsers so here I am.
Fer now things are speeding up and the computer fan doesn't speed up and scream any more and pages load very fast. This camper is a little happier fer now.

It seemed like in the earlier days IE used some non conventional HTML that didn't conform to the standard. As they always do they want to run the show. Web pge designers were using the IE conventions and that broke pages in third party (sic) browsers. That seems to have pretty much gone away as web designers are writing HTML to the standard and not to make it work in IE.
FWIW, Microsoft has totally canned IE and will no longer support it. They claim they are going to introduce a completely new browser. I guess we shall see. Given their track record I doubt it will surpass Firefox any time soon.

I've known that for about 20 years. I use to use Netscape, then I found FireFox and have used that since.

My HP Pavilion is 9 yrs. old this month and runs on XP. I can still go on IE however, It has its problems. Switched to Google Chrome and it worked great for approx. 3 months and started bombarding the operating system so much I had to uninstall it.
Went with Firefox and Wow, What a difference. Although, I do have to say the system has slowed down a little bit. Most days are great, some not so.
Guess I will simply need a new machine before too long....

Re: IE sucks
I only have one 'problem' with firefox. When I have more than 5 or six sessions running at once(only one in the foreground) it tends to get bogged down. Wonder why???
Yahoo is a bad acting contributer FWIW.

Yes, Internet Exploder is being replaced when Windows 10 is released (end of July).
I never did delete IE but made it nearly impossible to find on all the family computers. With the reasonable add-ons available to Firefox it is my go to, but when they make a major change and my older programs don't work with it, then its off to Chrome for a few weeks until everyone catches up,
I remember when I thought creating DOS based GUI stuff was fun!! What was I thinking???
Mom is nearly 90 and started using Siri on her 6plus
. I'm not willing to explain Cortana to her or her PC would be a mess!
I wonder if we could get Shopsmith to upgrade the PowerPro to voice commands?
Be well,
Ben

Re: IE sucks
I remember a friend who would open all these windows and wonder why her computer was so slow. After cleaning out the cache and a few few other housekeeping chores she said it was still slow. I told her just because she CAN open all those windows doesn't mean she SHOULD!JPG wrote:I only have one 'problem' with firefox. Re: IE sucks and I agree
You can open all of those windows without feeling the loss of speed IF you add the needed amount of RAM and have a processor that operates fast enough. Most of us (especially me) will not pay the price required to obtain such a computer. However, if you want one, just go get yourself a top of line "gaming machine" equipped with todays' fastest processor and all of the RAM and HD capacity that you can.
It will no longer bog down BUT it might "heat up".
I have one of those that I am thinking about rebuilding but I can not make up my mind which mother board I would want. I refer to it as the "Big Blacki Beast". It is larger than most and is heavy.
That little computer along side the "BBB" is my first purchased computer. It is an old Gateway from the very early days of Gateway. It still works (sorta) but is limited to 512MB of ram. I have given serious thought to doing an "UPGRADE" on this (just use the chassis).
