Heads Up
So, I ordered an "O-Ring" belt for my Stand Alone, teal colored Scroll Saw. SS informs me that this O-Ring will cost me $7.95 and the shipping will be $6.99 Huh, how can that be? How ridiculous.
So, just in case you need a "O-Ring" belt in the future. Be ready to belly up to the bar, by paying $14.95 for a little piece of rubber.
When this is delivered, I will find a replacement for it and not pay a kings ransom, again. As SS said, that this O-Ring will be much smaller and will seem like, it is not the right size. They told me ahead of time, that it stretches.
NAPA, here I come.
It is things like this, that makes folks, look elsewhere for replacement parts.
I apologize, if this upsets the true blue, died in the wool "SS Folks"
I don't apologize for my thoughts of, SS gouging their customer base... because that is exactly what they are doing!

You need not apologize, at least not to me.ExtraMile wrote:So, I ordered an "O-Ring" belt for my Stand Alone, teal colored Scroll Saw. SS informs me that this O-Ring will cost me $7.95 and the shipping will be $6.99 Huh, how can that be? How ridiculous.

Shopsmith has long had a reputation of high prices. They get away with this because, in most cases, they have a lock on the market. There are but a few entrepreneurs out there making spare/replacement parts.
And we wonder why some people are parting out Shopsmiths and selling on eBay. There is good money in it. If the day comes when I can no longer use mine, I just might part it out.

Re: Heads Up
How can they justify $6.99 shipping on a little piece of rubber?

Re: Heads Up
They aren't required to justify it. when ordering parts I always try to find other small items I can use and that can be shipped at the same time to defray the shipping costs.

They don't try to justify it. They charge, within a certain amount of reason, what the market will bare.joedw00 wrote:How can they justify $6.99 shipping on a little piece of rubber?
However, have you tried to ship anything recently. Postal fees (at the post office) are also outrageous, as are Fedex and UPS.
Don't take my word. Go online and check for yourself. The smallest package I could find would cost me 5.85 to ship to Ohio and estimated delivery time was 8-10 days.

It costs money to have someone to find the part and package it for shipping.joedw00 wrote:How can they justify $6.99 shipping on a little piece of rubber?

Re: Heads Up
Someone has to make that thing for SS. I did a quick check online and found out that O rings are measured by the Inside diameter and the thickness of the cross section. If you can measure the original there should be a replacement somewhere.

Re: Heads Up
And OBTW, it will be shipped today or tomorrow! IMHO, it wont be shipped today.
Also IMHO, someone needs to light a fire under their a$$es so that they can get with the program.
Paying $6.99 for such a small replacement part, heck that thing should be in my mailbox, tomorrow!

Re: Heads Up
I assume you got this information from Shopsmith and I think you are telling me that they charge shipping based on price. Based on price ????ExtraMile wrote:From 1 cent to $20 shipping is $6.99 and from $20.01 to $40, shipping is $8.99 and so on!
