Power Pro DIY Upgrade

Power Pro DIY Upgrade
After having a Power Pro upgrade kit sitting here in my garage for about a year and a half, I finally got around to taking on the project last week. After reading the direction manual and watching the DVD on doing the upgrade about 6 times, it has gone fairly well. I'm down to the end, and was making the the adjustments for any bearing rattle (which was minimal). I had to loosen the screw (with washer) on the eccentric bearing, as the washer was catching on the housing at the bottom of the opening for the bearing, preventing movement. I was screwing down the screw on the eccentric bearing after finishing, was not putting any undue pressure on it, but it snapped off. My question is this: Without that screw am I going to have a problem? (This is not the screw and washer on the case that prevents the bearing from coming forward.) I hate to use it if I'm going to have a big problem, and wonder if I should bite the bullet and get a new eccentric bearing. Any help will be appreciated.

I hope that you are NOT referring to the bolt that goes under the eccentric and through the two tabs on the casting. Breaking off one of the tabs renders the casting useless. If you are talking about the sheet metal screw and washer the the screw can be removed with an Easy Out and replaced with a similar size.
If you can post a picture it would help a lot.

No, I'm not referring to the bolt that goes through the 2 tabs in the casting, but the sheet metal screw and washer.

OK that is a good thing. There is no reason that you could not drill and tap another hole to the right of the slot on the original eccentric. I don't think it makes a difference which side the screw is on.
You may want to check with SS customer service and ask if they can provide a solution. ( like a replacement !!)

RW, I also broke one of those screws once. This was before I had the PowerPro.
There are two solutions: buy a new eccentric, or drill a hole into the eccentric in another place and insert your own screw. washer.
I found it difficult to hand drill another hole in mine, so bought a new eccentric. Still have the old one and will try to drill another hole when someday the Mark V is in drill press configuration - with clamps on the eccentric.
Yes at higher speeds I think you may find your eccentric creeping into the headstock. This movement will cause your belts to lean and the sides of them will stretch.
