10ER as of 06/27/15

Post by ventrac4231 »

Good Morning All;

Well shes on her own wheels as of this morning :D :D . I am now working on the table and extension table tops. I test ran the unit yesterday after redoing the motor, and it runs like a charm. I am still working to get the belt tensions right so the head stock will slide a little easier. All slides very well, but I would hope to get the headstock on the 10ER to slide as easy as my 520. But that is part of the fun of restoring something and that is dialing the whole unit in. Mine will be for lathe and drilling operations.

Best Regards
Eric

Thank You Grease Monkey;

I feel like my Great Uncle would be proud. The first ShopSmith machine I used was this 10ER. I got it a while back, but had never really took the time to give it the attention it needed.

I have been fortunate as the fact that I am a mechanic and woodworker. The machine came apart fairly well, but it takes a lot of patience. I am fortunate to have some of the top welders in the Eastern United States where I work and the repair to the speed changer was flawless.

I didn't do the major write up like MickyD, but anyone who needs help or has questions I will gladly answer or help.. the machines whether the 520 or 10ER, are much more pleasurable to work on than the Antique John Deere's I worked on before

Best Regards

Eric.

Nice job! Probably looks better than showroom new.

Be sure to post "before" and "after" side by side, especially when done.

Looking VERY good. Cast iron is heavier than die cast aluminum, so sliding 'as easy' will likely be elusive. Also the tag along speed changer can make that difficult.

It must be quite satisfying to restore an heirloom.

Beautiful restoration and I like the color combo. Have you thought of adding a ShopSmith logo to the top of your bench?
