Band Saw Dust Chute Issue

Indeed there is no 'best' point to make - other than to summarize the accurate details revealed by multiple paths towards the same goal(understanding).

I often do that because I believe it creates better future understanding.

The gentleman from Montana has done that quite well for this thread. I do not consider him to have any other objective.

Neither do I have negative feelings towards his critique of my measuring(with a ruler ).

Wanting to chime in just one more time - The real point of this discussion is confusion and mis-understanding. There was so much verbiage I got confused and thought js was the original poster . In return js mis-read my recent post and thought I had returned a hose to Woodcraft.

Let alone the "typos" over sizes, we all have participated in a lot of excess words. Kinda reminds me of the old parlor game of telephone.

"We" started without knowing the reason for the original 'issue'.

"We" assumed 'normal' SS parts as usual.

"We" examined those we had in our possession.

As usual "we" dug deeper than was necessary, but did learn from that.

As it turned out, improperly used third party stuff was the root cause.

The one thing that came out of this was a better understanding of the SS hoses etc..

Maybe next time "we" will inquire re SS issue when stuff simply does not 'add up'.

Finally, does anyone else use hoses without fittings?

Correction: My Woodcraft DC hose is 2 1/2" x 10'.

Woodcraft sells a coupling that screws into their 2 1/2" hose and has a male end that I believe will insert into the coupling on your bandsaw. This would make the bandsaw end of your dust collector hose like it was intended to be.

One of these can also be salvaged from an old Shopsmith Dust Collector Hose. Foolishly, Shopsmith does not offer these as an accessory.

Yes the Woodcraft end works with the band saw and all other SS tools. That is what I use here and have for years.

I thought it appropriate to complete this topic with a report. I purchased the DC Hose Ends for my SS and Bandsaw. They work perfectly as designed. Thank you all for a helpful discussion! Rick

Thank you for that tip. I was unaware (actually, I did not believe) that Shopsmith offered those.

SHOPSMITH: If items such as these are going to be added to the catalog, please develop some way of letting the common user know. We may be missing out of the item and Shopsmith may be missing out on sales.
