I considered a power stand and found they are not available. They don't come up used very often. I have three 510's and I keep them in various configurations but use one primarily for the surface sander or planer. I don't find the planer that difficult to lift yet and rarely have to do it alone anyway. I also needed new way to store parts and fasteners so the cabinet made sense. It will have drawers divided up into various heights ( from 2" to 6") and adjustable dividers inside the drawers. One of the nicest parts of moving back ashore is the opportunity to rebuild my shop from scratch. There were many things I always wanted to do as far as organizing my old shop but there was never time. It is a real pleasure to be able to woodwork with no time constraints and always have the time to do it the way I want.

I decided to utilize the space under the planer stand for parts drawers ( fasteners etc) and this weekend it was time to make the drawers. I got them made yesterday along with the drawer slides and hopefully will get them installed today. They are out of European Steamed Beech.

I managed to get the drawer slides installed, drawers installed, drawer fronts on and started getting the bins cut to size. The worst part by far was trimming the bins. Tried the miter saw which didn't work very well due to the thinness of the plastic. Finally ended up using the band saw which worked fairly well until the plastic melted onto the blade and the blade broke. The second blade finished the job. The drawer pulls are cut and shaped from Paduak and in the process of being sanded.

Thanks Chuck. I do enjoy making them and although I use accurides in my cabinets and furniture ( I love the soft close feature ) they do not lend the traditional look and feel of wooden slides. Also I don't like ball bearing slides in the shop as they tend to gum up with sawdust eventually. They are made of Euro steamed Beech and are full extension with stops. Although they may look complicated but they are actually quite simple to make.

The speed chart for the Power Pro recommends 400 rpm for cutting plastic with the bandsaw with any width blade, so even the slowest speed on a non-Power Pro Shopsmith without the speed reducer will be almost twice that. Thus the melted plastic.

Nice drawers. Do you lube them with beeswax? Another thread made me think of it.

I usually don't do anything to them. If I do I use a short spay of silicon. Normally they work great with nothing on them.
