It seems to operate as fast as my wife's I-pad, especially on boot up. Having grown up with Dos., I have a very hard time trying to use my daughter's Apple laptop. I was given the Surface as a gift from my daughter and her husband for helping to install a bathroom in their basement. The one I have came with the keyboard cover combo and it works great!
Thanks! Good to hear you like the surface. I don't have any problem with Apple as it is very intuitive to me. I have used PCs running Microsoft since 1980 and there is still things I can't figure out.

However I have been looking at a surface with docking station to me that is the cats meow! I see it as being able to replace my desktop, my laptop and my tablet. The docking station gives you tons of ports and the ability to have 3 monitor two of which can 4k resolution. Once out of the docking station the surface can be used as a tablet or as a laptop with the touch type cover. Kind of waiting to see how window 10 runs on it.

Still looking at an Apple air also

Thank you. It appears to be a "new and improved" Snipping Tool. It has features that were/are not in the Windows 7 version.

I am slowly slipping on my stance to remain with to remain with XP. (or even W7). This is happening because I am finding that existing applications that I use will not be supported by Windows 10 and when that happens the applications will show loose their support when operated with other than Windows 10.

MicroSoft has us by the sensitive parts and will pull us where ever they want. Run Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe to see what I mean. The list of incompatibilities with my machines is extensive.

If you are talking software, not hardware, it has XP SP3 is listed as the earliest compatibility option on my Windows 10. Right now I have nothing to test this with but it should work as it did in the past.

Hardware, well you are going to have to blame a lot of the hardware companies for part of that. They don't make new drivers and so you/we are stuck with buying new hardware. I have some old cameras that I wish they made drivers for but I finally had to give up on them...... cute but useless. I was planning on taking one apart and see if I can access the video before the usb chip but who has time anymore.

I make my own computer system every few years now, nice to keep reasonably current on hardware and since I still like to make a machine with reasonably priced last generation hardware it doesn't brake the bank. Might do that later this year when the snows fly and I have more time for that sort of thing.

The exception are laptops, those I like to buy new and use them until they die. Right now I have my eye on the Dell xps 13 but can't get one yet as I've spent my nest egg on a new powerpro upgrade. Intel might have a new processor out yet this summer, lower power and faster, so I'm waiting on that as well, but who knows what I will decide when the time comes.

You can't expect older hardware to be able to keep up with newer operating systems. Use the old one until it no longer is useful or until it dies. At that point, buy something more up to date.

And, Microsoft pulls you around only if you choose to let them. There are other choices in computing. If you choose Microsoft, you choose whatever goes with it. Choice is up to each individual.

Yes, I know that I chose the path that I am on. I also chose to cease in progressing down that path when Windows 7 came along. I decided the XP with SP3 did everything that I needed. All of the applications that I typically used - worked. I had adequate security to include firewalls, antivirus software and malware.

Now, with the introduction of Windows 8/10 that is no longer true. Why? Because some of what I have loaded is reported by Microsoft as being incompatible (not supported by Windows) and that this applications will no longer be updated to keep pace with the computer world.

OKAY, this is just like my choosing to buy a diesel truck. I did that when diesel was cheaper than regular gasoline. Now I believe that might not have been a good choice. Truck works great, it just costs more.

I little bit different with my computer. It works fine as configured now. If I load Windows 8, my graphics card need to be replaced.

Bottom line, to remain online for the long term, I am going to need to spend money. If I chose to upgraded to Windows 8, I am still going to need to spend more money. My video card will become incompatible with my OS.

I will not be able to hold a hard line and refuse to upgrade. I dislike being forced into a corner and that is where I am at.

Yes, life is full of choices and once made you must live with the consequences. I am there.

Yep! I remember a while back when you said you resist change.

I just wanted to say I have found that keeping relatively current may be frustrating for a short term, in the long run it is a whole lot more stress free.

Best wishes, my friend! :D

Aren't you getting shut out of more and more websites? Almost everyday I run into a message that my web browser is getting too old. ie8 is about shot and chrome has already notified me that they no longer support my hardware.

After reading the earlier thread I had started related to this subject and reading all of the responses to this thread, I made the decision to go for the windows 10 upgrade on my laptop. However, I was notified by the manufacturer (Sony) not to install the upgrade until August when the updated drivers will be made available. My decision to do this is financial: while I cannot afford to purchase another computer at the present time I feel I cannot pass on the opportunity to pass on the upgrade, especially since it offered for free.

If you remember, long ago I reported that I avoid ie8 and that I do not use Chrome. I abandoned ie as soon as I discovered firefox. No, my browser has not been the problem. Actually, so far there has been no problem. The issue is that when I run the compatibility program (mentioned earlier this thread) I am informed that W8 declares applications on my computer (those that I use regularly) to be incompatible.
