What parts of country are best value in used Mark V's found? Mickyd says he often picks them up for about 100 in Florida. I have been all over Craigslist looking for them in Oklahoma and Texas and those deals aren't to be found.
I like driving well enough, and it is doable to save several hundred dollars on average. I want to find one to rebuild and maybe a parts donor for spares, maybe in the same trip.
Is Craigslist even the best place to look for one? I want to rebuild one from the ground up and put something back in service that is in need of rebuilding. I have been lurking here for several months and have read hundreds of posts especially the top two in Maintenance and have no doubt that if I am patient, I can do it.
Thoughts on where best to look as I just don't know where the bulk of them were sold in the first place, and where the largest concentration of owners are. I couldn't find that on Shopsmith site if such a thing exists.

MickyD is in San Diego.
I think you are thinking of Bill Mayo in Plant City FL.
I think FL is 'good' since there are a lot of retirees there.
Patience is your best ally.

I don't know where you are looking in Texas but there is a 510, with Band Saw and Belt Sander, a shaper fence and some stuff in boxes for $225 listed in the Austin area. Has some visible rust and is sitting under a carport.
Band Saw is #96791 May 1984, and the 510 didn't come out til 1985 but that serial wasn't visible in the photos.

Should be in your range as it is south central Texas.
I live in Texas, and would scarf this one up myself if I thought long enough about it.

Any used Shopsmith is expensive to get up here in North Dakota.

There are few outstanding buys on Craig's List. Most Shopsmiths are well over priced for the market in Florida. I search within 100 miles (2 hours) of home at least once a day on Craig's List and always was prepared to drive to pick it up that day or night when I find one. I was able to purchase 2 510s, 3 1980s 500s and a late 1950s Shopsmith, all with at least one SPT or attachment for a total out lay of only $750 last fall. None of the headstocks operated so I brought them for the parts. The best buys that I had seen in years. I could not turn them down. I picked up 2 of them late at night as other people had also called later and wanted to buy them. First come, first serve works most times. I have had a couple of Shopsmiths sold to another buyer after I was in route to pick them up but that is life. There was a nice 520 with 4 SPTs for $600 in Orlando, FL last year but it sold before I called for directions. I saw that this same 520 was being listed again by itself for around $900 in the past month.
