Thank you very much for posting this. It is a very interesting read. This explains a lot about some of Shopsmith's actions.

Again, as has been the case in several law suits regarding wood working equipment, the injured party attempts to blame the equipment for something a thoughtful person could have/should have avoided. It also sounds a bit implausible (at least to me).

Alright, guys - I didn't mean to touch any nerves or rile anyone up so much; I was just looking to find out what parts available from the Shopsmith catalogue I could use on the machine I have in my shop. Several members of this fine forum have been very helpful in that matter, and I was also able to find I the back of the storage cabinet next to the dust collection bag a printed copy of a presumably abridged version of the owners manual. Though it's faded, the part numbers for the drill chuck and 1.25" table saw arbor match part numbers available online for the Mark V/5, model 500. That leads me to believe that the model 500 version of the 5/8" arbor will fit for me as well.

As for the coupling kit - if I can get back to asking questions - I noticed the kit , which includes coupler and hubs costs about $10.50 more than the coupler alone. Each hub costs somewhere between $3 and $4. What, then is the benefit of our having the coupling kit?

If you don't have the hubs you need them so the kit is in order. If you have the hubs then all you need is the coupler.

OK, got it. You are correct. I don't know why the "kit" is more expensive. The kit does include an upper and lower headstock hubs and no SPT hubs. Even at that it is $3 more expensive than buying them separately. As I think I remember years ago the kit included the coupler, the upper and lower hubs and an SPT hub. Thus the higher price. It appears not to be so now.

The topic is now on its original track with folks answering and providing help to each other. Answering another issue was just a part of the process we go through. You are entitled to get the best answers from all the members and you are getting that with a bit of context thrown in.

Stay engaged and ask questions. I don't have a Mark VII but I think I might like one to learn about them. Others here do and hopefully we all understand what Shopsmith can do for us and what we can do to help each other.
