Pulley Guard

Hi All

When I purchased my used Shopsmith, I received 3, in the box, pulley guards # 505665. Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do with them -- other than put them on ebay?

Also, on the bottom of each box is the # 504086. This produces a "no hit" on the SS site. Anyone know what that # represents?

The pulley guard comes with the Special Purpose Tool power stands. #505665 is listed as a service part as I would expect. No idea why there would be a second number on the box. Unless you have your SPT's mounted on individual power stands they are probably of no use. Of course if you do have SPT's on power stands you already have the pulley guards.

Just a guess, but the number on the bottom of the box could be the inventory number for the box itself.

Yes, I agree. There is one on eBay now with the box. The 504 number on the bottom looks like the box number. FWIW this guard is the old style that only covers the pulley and not the entire belt. The ones SS ships now with the power stand are longer and cover the pulley and the rest of the exposed belt.

I agree that the 504 number is for the box itself. I have no SPT. Interesting that the new unit sells for $153 but yet the old unit is listed at $14.99 and has no takers.

I was kind of shocked at the price of a new one. Then looking at the picture on eBay it looks like it is cast aluminum. Can you verify that? The newer long guards are plastic. Still $153 is ridiculous even for aluminum.

Yes, they are aluminum. It seems that back in the day, when you ordered an accessory, they included the pulley guard in case you were going to use it as a stand alone rather than on the ShopSmith.

OK, so now the pulley guard come with the Accessory stand instead the SPT. That makes more sense. Skip Campbell made a full coverage pulley guard for his 10ER using two of them
