Need help determining value

Post by supermansrf »

So I'm fairly new to Shopsmith. My grandpa has one that he used for probably 40 years and still going strong. I ran across one on Craigslist around here and I'm interested in it. However I'm unsure of its value and don't want to get taken on a ride.

I'm not sure of the model, but it comes with all of the original attachments (most were never used supposedly) and the manual. I'll attach some pictures and hopefully someone can give me some guidance?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

I guess what attachments would help too. Its supposed to have a table saw, lathe, drum and disc sander attachments. Again whatever isn't attached currently is supposed to be never used.

As pictured, a lot is 'missing' to make it function. As pictured, it is not worth 'much'. If it does include the missing stuff it may be worth more.

I am intentionally avoiding $ numbers. Location will determine the 'market' value.

So where are you? Folks here do NOT sabotage each other.

The carriage is on the left, pushed up against the pivot base. Both the photos are taken from the back side of the machine.
It looks as if it was used primarily as a lathe.

Thanks for all of the replies. JPG I'm right down the road from you in sunny Louisville lol.

As I said the guy selling it says it's all there. I'm guessing that he used it for whatever it's configure as. I'll have to determine what's all there when I go look at it. I'll read through the manual when I go to look at it and make sure nothing significant is missing.

Let's assume it is all there. Any idea what a fair price is? Even if I have to do some work on it. I'm not buying it to make money. I really want to use it.

Thanks again

Download the Buying a Used Shopsmith PDF in this link, it will give you a good idea what to look for, but it won't help with value, since it is so location dependent.

Thanks Mike, THIS x10.

From the picture, I wouldn't give a lot for it. There are many many of these machines for sale. Be patient ....

At the least determine if it includes the main work table.

If there, I would not go higher than $100 as an initial offer. Also proper running is an assumption(although not a deal breaker).

A lot is not shown in the pix.

Text him and go take a look. ;)

Not sure what he was 'doing' that included the extension table(the newer wide one) and not the main table. BTW it should also have the older narrow extension table with/without the legs.

Good Luck!!!
