Excellent write-up and pic's Roy. Glad you and Stan were able to get something working here. I turn a lot of bowls and a half dozen HF's and have that vibration too. I use a quality Nova chuck and have the upgraded spindle. I think the vibration is the nature of the beast and a bowl steady or some other type of wheeled support is the way to go to eliminate it. Haven't made one yet but it is getting closer to the top of my project list. Thanks for a great and informative post!..Bill..
Bill, thanks for the information, glad I haven't bought another chuck yet.rubberneck wrote:... I use a quality Nova chuck and have the upgraded spindle. Aloha,
Roy
I nearly eliminated the vibration today by wrapping several layers of plumbing teflon tape around the threads of the SS to 1" chuck adapter. I started hollowing a fairly large piece and only get an occasional vibration, even though I'm purposely taking firm cuts.
The adapter comes from Penn State, so if anyone runs into a similar problem, you might also want to try the 1" rubber washer and teflon tape.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
