Throwing uo dinner

Post by ERLover »

Listening to His Highness on gun control after the shooting in Oregon, no talk about black on black shootings in Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, LA. ect.
My rant for the day.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

No talk of white-on-white shootings, either.

Shootings are bad regardless any 'mix' or not. Adding those details only serves to inflame an issue we should all be trying to 'resolve'.

Get rid of gun-free zones and it will get much better. They are killing zones for sickos like this.

To add to the discussion. I am in one of the two countries in Europe where a concealed carry permit is within reach of the average resident. And if you don't have a concealed carry permit, you can still carry a black powder derringer or some less-than-lethal weapons. The only places off-limits to carry here in Slovakia (or Czech Republic) are certain government buildings (like Parliament). In these cases there are armed police and metal detectors, and if I enter with my gun I can leave it with the police officer to pick up when I leave. Other places may have no-gun signs, but it is just like in much of the US-- there is no criminal penalty for entering such property with a gun, if the owner/manager somehow notices and asks you to leave, you have to leave.

Of course, many of the more violent Europeans either fled the law to the US or were sent to the US (Georgia (where I am from) having been a penal colony) in the 18th and 19th centuries! There has, however, been a link between psychoactive pharmaceuticals and a lot of these shootings in the US. In general, I think US doctors throw more pills at problems than Slovak doctors, though Slovak doctors still prescribe plenty of pharmaceuticals, but then Slovakia isn't really on the cutting edge of anything other than home-production of hard liquor...

But my feeling when I read these things-- violent crime in the US has been falling for more than the last decade. The great interest in self-defense carrying of guns has increased the cost of committing violent crime. In a country of nearly 350 million people, s___ happens. It is still a far greater likelihood in the US to die in a car wreck than be shot by someone.

Of course, every shooting is an opportunity for the media to increase viewership and politicians of certain stripes to get elected. Even here, after a "mass" shooting 5 years ago, the law got changed so that everyone with a gun license has to have a psychological exam every 5 or ten years. The psychological exam, while being an easy 90€ for the psychologist, is really a joke anyway.

Oh, and despite need for licensing for most guns, there is still violent crime and murders here. Somewhere each year around 100 murders for 5 million people. 10 of the murders for one year committed with a gun, the rest with some other weapon. This stuff happens-- probably a lot are arguments and disagreements that escalate, and some is settling scores between mafia smuggling drugs and cigarettes. Evil and violence has been happening since Cain killed Abel out of jealousy...

The Rosemont killer took nine lives. How many does Planned Parenthood take every day?

So how did we transition from gun control and gun free zones to Planned Parenthood?
