There might be another way. How about turning it into a wall-mount drill press? I haven't seen it done with a Mark V, but if you can convert one into a Shop Deputy, why not a wall-mount drill press?

Does anyone know how the Shop Deputy is fastened to the bench? Judging from the photo of the conversion kit, it appears that a few lag screws and fender washers will do the trick.

Looking at the 150 dollar "kit" of 2 short way tubes and some lags and washers (like you point out), it has to be fairly simple to mount. Maybe drill holes for the lags in the bases? I have room for my 500, but a wall mounted DP would be the berries .....

Wow Dusty! Is that what they are really using? Can we verify that? I don't mind the mothership making a profit, but that seems excessive if that is what they are using ......

No that's KNOT what their using. That electrical conduit is Galvanized Steel, hot dipped at that. Also doesn't say what the wall thickness is.

I think JPG was referring to using a hacksaw as your tool of choice in cutting the tubes. Use a sawsall or circular saw with a metal cutting blade, otherwise it may be a multi weekend project!

I think a block(shaped to fit the interior of the end castings) attached to the wall, then use the existing leg mounting holes. Nothing 'modified'.

Exactly, but 10ER tubes are unique/superior to the rest of the SS line. I have yet to find a source or find anyone who actually knows where this stock comes from. I know that SS is not making it themselves, so what is the source?

Yup, I am sure some of you have seen the Magna Ad that shows the front wheels of a 1940 something sedan sitting on the 10ER way tubes.

Good question. Proprietary information? I didn't think the MK V way tubes were centerless ground just by the way they look (plated?) but I was not sure. Are the MK V way tubes plated? They look like it. 10ER tubes are not.

But the question oh grand poopaa, is what is the source of the Mark V/7 way tubes ..... These things aren't grown out of the ground, someone makes them ....
