Long term maintenance
Hello!
Sold most of my independent tools and bought a 510 to replace them in order to save space in my shop -plus I like it. This in preparation for a move to Ecuador where after our shipping container arrives, receiving shipments of anything is prohibitively expensive. Now, this machine is in excellent shape but I would really appreciate any advice on what types of maintenance parts to bring down with me for long term -10 years or so.
It is a great machine. Need a little patience particularly with table saw depth adjustments as I have to adjust two tables and potentially my run-off table instead of just raising the blade. I have had the most fun with turnings as I did not have lathe before, especially gluing up contrasting woods and seeing the resulting designs as they are turned. Made some great table leg feet in this way.
Thanks very much for any advice

Welcome!
If it were taking my Shopsmith to a deserted isle, I'd bring C, D, G & I from this list.

And M N O P. However all those mentioned are easily mailed later(I assume mail is a future option).
I agree with Algale as far as prioritizing the list.
I think the most necessary 'thing' is several bottles of #10 oil(zoom spout preferred).
Now for some possibly bad news - what is the electrical power source in Ecuador?

Re: Long term maintenance
Also, think about all your consumables needs.
Do you have enough sand paper for the 12 inch disc (or drum sander)? Do you need to bring extra blades (table saw/band saw)?
It would be cheaper to buy these now and stuff them in the container than ship later, no?

I'm pretty sure Shopsmith doesn't ship via the mail. And I'm not sure they ship at all internationally.JPG wrote:And M N O P. However all those mentioned are easily mailed later(I assume mail is a future option).

But, there's always "feebay". You may find some international mailers for used Shopsmith equipment.

Re: Long term maintenance
Looks like a win on that score. 120V, 60 cycle, same receptacles as USA and Canada. Ecuador PowerJPG wrote:Now for some possibly bad news - what is the electrical power source in Ecuador?
The only con is if, they had run on 220v it would have been a good reason to upgrade to a PowerPro.

I was considering 'we' help him by being the 'mailor'.

Re: Long term maintenance
You guys are awesome. I did not know I needed to log in to get responses so just now saw these. I have a bit to chew on here. Consumables I can figure out but bearings, belts, pulleys, components, those I don't know. I even thought about just buying a second headstock.

Re: Long term maintenance
Yup, same volts and phasing as US. Very convenient! Would love to upgrade just for the wider range of speed, but that is an expensive luxury for me.
