Truly a disease

Post by masonsailor2 »

Ok but I couldn't help it. Honest. It really was a great deal. I responded to a CL ad for a 510 because I have been wanting to convert one to a free standing drill press. The ad said in very good condition and the price was 800.00. I thought it was just a 510 with a bandsaw. Before I went there I negotiated him down to 600.00. I figured it was worth a look. When he opened up the garage my jaw dropped. There were boxes and boxes of accessories and everything including the SS was in new condition. Most of it never used. I had borrowed my sons Tacoma pickup to go there and it was a challenge to even get it all in the truck. That included loading up the cab. When I arrived home the wife thought I was nuts. I have now promised not to buy any more SS stuff. But then there is this problem. In one box was a whole bunch of tubes filled with jig saw blades. And a jig saw is the one thing I still don't have. Now I do have the blades, so ......

No the jig saw and blades are not the problem, the problem you have is the "promise" you made and still want the jig saw ;)

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

Not a problem. Masonsailor2 left loopholes large enough to sail a clipper ship through. Fine negotiating, IMHO.

1). He said that he would not "buy" any more SS stuff. But if he really wants that SS jigsaw, I'm sure that he could easily trade some of his surplus booty for one.

2). He said that he would not buy any more SS stuff. Why is this a problem, if you already have (almost) everything they ever made? More importantly, this leaves every other brand of woodworking machinery, both vintage and modern, on-limits. Perhaps even "Magna". ;) That's the only logo on my jigsaw!

Maybe my dad was right, and I should have been a lawyer after all. :D

This is why this forum is so necessary. It is support at the most important And necessary moments. Thank you Dennis for putting it into a much better prospective :D I will try to post some picks when I get home on Wed. I should have taken a pic of the truck before we emptied it. There is a lot of stuff I will either never use or very limited use. I definitely don't need two jointers for instance. There is also the biscuit joiner, runoff table and grinding wheel attachment which will find limited use.

I know someone who could use a jointer, if you're in the giving mood.

Oh, seriously, QUITE the haul!

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.
