Not every location supports the interfaces so wired remains the only residential standard that works. Behind a Business Phone System it's up to the administrator of the system to encode your location. It's not descriptive enough to return Sir Christopher Wren Building at William and Mary's when Room 134 should have been also encoded. Inside buildings GPS is a tough call due to interference for cell phones and GPS can be set off by the user.

I went ahead and started the Nomorobo service. Pretty painless to do. Now all I have to do is wait for the phone to not ring I guess.

You will hear it ring once, then the Nomorobo system takes over if it is determined to be spam. So just get in the habit of not running to the phone on that first ring.

Unfortunately I am not able to use Norombo,

HOWEVER I do have a Panasonic phone system (KXTG7875S) that allows me to block the first ring. The base has its own call block software system which works, I presume, similarly to the Norombo, but they also have the set up code (#173) which allows me to not hear the first ring (on / off setting).

It is not an automatically updated database so I do have to enter the spam number into the home system (250 available entries) like I would a number that I WANT to keep, but after the initial call it is just a matter of a few key strokes I just add it and never hear from them again (until they spoof another number!)

I presume there are other manufacturers that have the first ring off available, but know for this specific model it is available.

Hope that helps somebody avoid the crapweasesel marketers.

So far so good.

I know it has been a short time but it has been quiet on the phone front the last couple of days.

We do have caller ID and we do not answer if it is not someone we know. I waiting for it to say shopsmith is calling to let me know my new powerpro is shipping.... other then that I don't get that many calls.

One of my sons provides me with at cell phone and I only answer that for people who are in my contact list. I get a lot more messages then phone calls because I also don't use the phone while driving and the family knows that.

By far most of my communications are done using email. Might be as high as 90%. I almost never call anyone, only a few calls when having to deal with this or that or to order something. I was about 10 when we first got phone service and it was a 4 party line. The lady across the street was always on and thought she owned the line.... but those stores are for another day.

Forgot about the election coming up so I might want to order that blocker sometime this fall and see if that will keep that traffic down too.

It has been a couple of months now and I'm really happy with how this is working. Yes you get that single ring but that is it and they never have a chance of getting to leave a message. I wish I had had this for years already but at least I have it now.

Big rush of calls the last couple of days. Don't know who they are and I don't care. They even mess with the caller ID system and send things like a string of single characters or none phone numbers but they never get to talk to anyone so I hope they all go out of business someday soon.

Fortunately I had recently purchased the Panasonic phone. After the first call, I add that number to the call block list. Never hear from 'them' again!!!

Started the blocking late in the election period but it really works. Nary a jingle!!!!

Our land line phone is a Panasonic portable with a call block feature. When we receive a spam call we just block that number. A bit of extra work (30 seconds) but saves us a lot of future aggravation.

We cannot get cell phone coverage where I live and have a land line. I was getting calls every morning about the same time trying to push pills from another country. I have no idea where they got my name and e mail from but what I did to stop that was something that I cannot discuss on here. Same woman called right back and said she had her manager on the phone I said good and started ripping a new one again. These were the usual foreign voices you could hardly understand. Then we started get the same woman every night at almost the same time asking for money. After a week or so of this when she called I said good I was waiting for her to call as I was requisting donations for our fishing fund and would she like to donate. She hung up and hasn't called back since
