Oneway Revolving Live Center anyone have one?

Post by reible »

Towards the end of next month I might find one of these or I might opt for a Easy parting tool.

I already have the Nova system and am happy with it but it lacks the threaded function that the oneway has. For the $120 I could also go for the easy parting tool...... wish I could do both but that isn't possible.

So I thought I'd see what comments users would have about the oneway or if you happen to have the easy parting tool comments of that would also be great.

The old coin toss is the only other option I can think of.

I have the Powermatic center which looks identical to the Oneway. I like it but the center that I use the most is the Shopsmith center.

I have had one for several years and it gets a lot of use in my shop. Oneway products are well made. Being able to attach different things to it is a plus. I have made large cones out of wood to hold bowls in place. Also with a adapter you can mount your Nova chuck to it. It comes with two small cones which are very useful.

It's the best center system out there in my humble opinion. I only wish I could find the small cone! Lost somewhere in the shop! Regarding the parting tool, how much better is it over the traditional parting tools? I'd get the Oneway first...

Ed, I'm not familiar with the Oneway live center, but a Google search showed me the "threaded function" you referred to.

I do have the Nova live center system. Mine came with a fitting for adapting to machine threads, 5/16-18 if memory serves. If you want, you can use a threaded rod instead of the supplied bolt or wood screw. Would that do what you want?

For those who have not looked at one of these here is a shot of the threaded area that allows accessories to be added.

Robust also makes a center like this with the 3/4-10 tread.

Some of that functionality I'm hoping for depends on that type of design.

Of course as soon as I get it I will be tempted to spend even more money on some other accessories like an adapter for my G3 chuck...... which I have not seen an adapter to shopsmith yet but perhaps I missed it?

All the Teknatool chucks take the same adapters. The ISNS adapter would be the one you want for the G3 chuck.

I guess that would be an option too, chuck insert change to 3/4-10 that is.

It looks like it might be a RH thread on the oneway is that correct? In which case the IHNS might work. Anyone know?

I misunderstood the question. :o

When you will be using this setup will it be under power or is it for accurate alignment when turning a bowl around to chuck the other side?

If the system won't be under power you could use a Lathe Arbor to mount the chuck on the tailstock.
Coincidently, the socket on the Nova Live Center is #2 Morse Taper also, so Lathe Arbor could be used with it if the arbor was cut down to the appropriate length.

And, not to discourage you from getting a new toy ;) Oneway do list an adaptor for the live center

The links on the oneway page don't take you anywhere yet. But the price is a bit more then the adapter for the nova. Which leads one to question the value of the oneway part.

Thanks for the information.
