Anyone playing with google cardboard?

Post by reible »

My son takes care of my cell phone needs and he has Verizon service for us now. I spotted a offer that is for Verizon customers where they give you a starwars version of the cardboard for free. It just so happened he was out and about and got my message and so he stopped and picked up a pair for himself and for me. He is a big starwars fan, my fault as I brought him up that way.

So now I'm spending time playing with vr instead of doing other stuff that I should be doing. I even did my first vr photo the other night. No where as cool as some of the other stuff that is out there but hey you have to start somewhere.

Just wondering what interest has developed here in vr and google cardboard?

I didn't even know what "Google Cardboard" was until I looked it up (on Google, of course!). So this essentially is a modern version of the old "View Master," is it not?

Don't regret this, I have one of those kids too! But I do feel sorry that you got caught in the trap.

Years ago, I got hooked on a Nintendo game "RC Pro AM" Finally got to where I could beat the game. Also temporarily developed "the blind stares".

Google of course has a stake in the game but the cardboard sets make it pretty inexpensive to play around. You simply put your phone (has to be ther right size, in my case I have to take the cover off for it to fit)in the cardboard and then find things on the web to look at. You can make your own version from plan but you will need some lenses of the correct type.

The vr part is what makes this different then the old stenographic. Yes it works for that sort of thing as well but it doesn't end there. Look for ones that say 360 degree and that is what you will get, you turn and the picture displayed rotates just like you do, giving you a 360 turn takes you all around the circle. The older ones might be 120 degree or 180 degree, still cool but not like a full 360 degree.

Here is a starting spot:

This is where the link takes you:

The cow one is crazy. Life underwater is great, just like being in the water with stuff above you, below you, and well all around you. Don't worry you don't even have to get wet to enjoy it.

I might even get a couple of viewers as stocking stuffers this year. Amazon has a crazy amount of choices.
