New caster interference with the foot hight lever

Post by rbenstead »

Has anyone experienced the top ring on the new style caster hitting the foot hight levers. I can't see any way of correcting it short of drilling a new hole for the roll pin and moving the lever over a bit.

That is the only solution that I have found so far. I only remove the roll pin to where I can move the lever and tap it over around 1" and drill a hole in the rod with the roll pin still in the lever. Then tap the roll pin into the rod.

That is one of the things shopsmith seems to ignore in there usually good descriptions of products. If you have the older casters then yes the pedal hits.

Some have ground the pedal enough but I went the route of repository the lever. Someone had posted the location of the levers in the newer casters so that is where I moved mine. Just in case they make another adjustment to things in the future I wanted to be ready.

If yours are like mine they were not so nice, dust, dirt, some rust and I went the route of a full clean up and rebuild. If you do that keep track of which parts go where as it gets confusing when you have to put them back together...... I like a dummy didn't so it was a bit of puzzle for a while.

Below is a link to a post from February 2014. There is a picture of my Mark V and a description of moving the actuator inboard.
