I got a call from one of my sons the other day. His daughter wanted some stilts and he recounted the story of how when he was a boy his dad made him some. His dad being me. Then he wonder if they were still around.... need he have ask????
So I dug into a corner of the garage that contains all manor of long lost items and there they were. How ever there condition was not so good. So I went about fixing them up for my grand daughter.
I still remember when I made them. It was a single 2 x 4 project and about an hours work. I cut them to length then ripped the 2 x 4 in to 2 x 2's. Made some foot holes and drilled some holes so you could adjust the height. The foot rests did not survive very well so that was for the most part what I had to rebuild.
When we moved to the new house all the neighbor kids tried them out and each of my kids had there turns using them and then they faded away for a while only to be re-found some times later. So once again they have been re-found and yet another generation will get to use them.
This was a quick and dirty job which I could have done much better but still it is nice to be passing on the memories and the stilts.
OK I know the rules, no picture it didn't happen etc etc.
My son will sand them and finish them if he wishes, something I never got to, ever.
