Today in the shop (umbrella light 2)

Sometimes the darkness is your friend, sometimes those shadows work for you. Then again there are times when the light is your friend and those shadows have to be put back in the shadows. Do you know what I mean?

So I got a second umbrella light, this one is the same as the other one and I can only speak for this particular one when I tell you what I did to modify it to work in yet another unusual way, we will get to that in a short while.

I had mentioned before in the first umbrella light thread that I wanted one of these for my camera. Stock off the shelf it wouldn't fit my camera, it might yours??? So when I took it apart I had to look at what structure was in place and where things like the wires ran and the like. It seemed reasonable that one could make a small change or two and see where that lead. For the price you might end up with some inexpensive trash or you might end up with a usable light system.

I set up at the drill press and installed a 2-1/2 hole saw and proceeded to enlarge the hole. I tried this and it was still too tight to lock closed. I then came back with a 2-9/16 hole saw. That worked very well, or at least let us say it is adequate. So lets start with a picture of how it now looks on the camera.

The very next thing to do is to take a picture without and with the light on.

The are two light sources at play here, a desk lamp and an overhead light. The shadows are a result of those two light sources and there location. The foreground shadow to the right is my head.......

So now lets turn on the umbrella light.

You can see there is still a slight shadow from the desk lamp but look inside the block and where is my heads shadow. Washed away is where.

So now it is time that we order our second light and make your camera proud.

Nice Ed, but do you know the difference between a dent and a bulge? If the light is from above which it normally is it hits a bulge, the shadow is below, making it look as our eyes normally see it as a bulge. If lighting is the same a dent has a shadow above center, but if the light is coming from below they look the opposite, cant find a pic of it on the net. You got the picture, pun intended, now for JPG to way in

I needed to get away from mom a bit the other day, and she is fine at home by herself, I mean she is not an invalid, and her mind is sharp, she can motor around the house and bathroom things. I was at Menards just getting stocking stuffers, well LED lights, of all kinds, got that long nose marker for me and nephew, but the LED flash lights, got 2 with a magnetic ring around the lens, pulls out like an antenna and has a 6 inch flex line at the end to bend for picking up things, heck I could become a Proctologist with that one!!!! $4.95
Then some that are 2 light lumen teared, and a red flasher, with a magnetic base. Just a great day, and all because of your long nose marker. At 5.00 a bit pricey for what it is, but the only game in town.

So were the pens where I said they would be? Not to sure how stores compare store to store and state to state.

I did warn you the pens are on the expensive side but they have some properties that are non existent in the general world of pens. I only use it for times when I need the feature set and the pen is still going and it has been about a year and half.

Ed, they were in the same place as your store, Menards, and I shop at 3 different ones here in WI, are laid out the same, and things are almost usually in the same places. $5.00 but never seen those b4, and I will only use it for that purpose too. Thanks the tip. Not to mention the umbrella light, no spindle shadows any more!!!
