The tapped holes for the hold down posts were in each miter gauge slot near the back edge. There was also a tapped hole in the end of the miter gauge bar in addition to the two on top of the shaper fence. At least my goldie has them. I also have an earlier greenie table that does not have the tapped miter gauge slot holes, but does have two holes through the top between the slot and each edge. The separation of the holes on each side differs. I am curious what those holes are for.

I would like a close up pix of the aluminum molder head. I have one that I have assumed was NOT of SS origin.

The 2.5" jointer cutter is of model 10(E/ER) vintage.

As for "Mark 5", that was the model designation up until SS Inc. created the 510. At that time I believe the Mark V 500/505/510 became de rigor.

And as I understand the lineage, there was Magna Engineering, Magna Tool, Yuba Tool, Magna American, Shopsmith Inc., and today RLFBrands.

Yes the jointer is still essentially the same. The design goes all the way back to the Model 10.

I believe the knives will fit all versions of the jointer.(not sure re the latest mod that changed the wedges)


FWIW I also have Mark 2 stuff. No headstock, but the upper parts down to the end castings.

Here are a couple relics. Air compressors for the ShopSmith.
One of these was a production model and the second one a newer experimental proto-type.
I have used one of them several years ago for spray painting a fence but now have a stand-alone compressor for that and other jobs.

Well you caused me to look at a vintage specific PTWFE and there discovered the reason for the greenie holes. Those hold down posts(again).

Apparently first the through holes, then later the tapped holes.

I am really surprised that the name(s) were not trademarked and if they were that they became so confusing.
Another point is that Magna (and the subsequent companies) did not make all of the components themselves. There were many vendors who made special parts such as the castings, belts, gears and you name it. Except for many machined parts, Magna just designed and assembled most of that. But they did provide detailed brochures and instructions on its use.

Well, thank you Charlese for those nice comments. However, I am not the Jacob you refer to. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and don't do repairs of ShopSmith machines (commercially).
That is not to say that I couldn't, with all the extra parts I have. Take a look at all the new bearings I have and tons of other spare parts.

I mentioned that many of the items were not made by Magna (or the other companies since). The tag on one of the belts in the picture says 'Matched Set by Gates Belts". Gates is still in the business of making belts.

Two more accessories: Disk and belt sanders.
I have three disks which come in handy since I use different grit papers on them.
I don't have too many sand-paper rolls for the 6 inch sander and was wondering where I can buy more. Anyone???

I almost forgot. There is a small table for the belt sander. It mounts in front when using the sander in a vertical position.
