Noisy Bandsaw

I've never really used my bandsaw. It came along with my Shopsmith that I bought over 10 years ago from an ad in the newspaper. Remember those? I've never used it because I am afraid of it, the noise it makes. I will admit I have not done my homework yet. I am going to read the manuals over the holidays. I see there are many threads on the subject here. If you have any quick easy things I should try first, or other words of wisdom, please do let me know. Thanks!

The blade backup bearings and the tracking bearings. One or probably all.

I sure never would do that to a SS band saw. They are great and totally fixable.

I am excited. I'm sure this will be a great learning experience and I will become a big fan of the SS band saw.

Funny, I had one of those Crapsman Band Saws, paid 60$ for it and had a large table, and the tilting head was great compared to a tilting table, but was basically unrepairable, so sold it for $100. I found a SS stand alone for the same price.

Thanks for the video Tom. That is hilarious. There are times when a grenade must be considered a repair tool ! As far as the SS band saw they are a noisy beast even when tuned up. The cool blocks help a little. I have never tried them but the carter bearing upgrade looks like a good plan too.

Could one of you with the talent and knowledge to take and upload videos post one of what a smooth running SS bandsaw should sound like? I have upgraded my older SS bandsaw with the improved tracking/blade back-up bearings, switched to 'cool' blade blocks and meticulously aligned everything but it still makes much more noise than the non SS bandsaws I've used. I'd like to confirm if the noise level of mine is excessive or not.

I have posted a series of 3 videos on youtube that have a narrow blade running, a wide blade running and another with out the blade guides involved. You will have to scroll down to locate them but I think this will give you an idea of the sound that I'm seeing.
