Lamp Holder for SS in lathe mode

Post by bobgroh »

Not very exciting but I added a new way to mount a shop light on the SS when I use it as a lathe. I already use a old flexible light mounted to a block of wood mounted on the tubes to the left of power head. That is fine most times but is a bit of a bother when using the lathe. Then I had an idea: what about putting a simple wood block in the unused (when in lathe mode) hole in the carriage!

So I took a chunk of 2x4, cut it about 3" in length and then cut down the width to about 1-1/2" (i.e. making it a square cross section block about 3" long). I turned down the last 2-1/2" to fit the carriage and added a flat area (to clear the adjustment gear in the carriage). Then I drilled a 1/2" hole through the piece for the leg on the lamp.

Works great!

Thanks for sharing this idea. I have a light like that and will make a holder like this, the next time I'm out in the garage.
