ER speed changer

Post by bmillernh »

I have an ER and purchased a speed changer
off eBay. I can make the speed changer line
up with the motor but cannot get the
headstock pulley to line up.

Welcome, and welcome to the ER club and disease. Okay, the head stock pulley has a set screw in the middle groove, so if you loosen it and have a gear puller you can shift the pulley a bit, the head stock shaft has a flat spot on it for the set screw to seat on, may not need the gear puller. Second possiblity is the motor pulley, it has a set screw too, I think in the center groove but also a key way, same scenario, but no flat spot on the motor shaft, the key way takes the place of that, shift it a bit too if you have too to help with alignment.

Here is a copy of the 10ER speed changer manual.

Note that you need to reverse the motor pulley so that the big end is next to the motor and the big end of the spindle pulley is next to the headstock.
