Custom Base for Shopsmith Bandsaw

Post by tomsalwasser »

I like the looks of this and I have a good motor from a scrapped table saw. Anybody here ever seen or done something like this?

No I have not seen that one before but I have seen some home made bases that were very well done but that one is excellent. The motor though looks like a case of gross overkill. Good counterweight for the saw though!

When I bought my SS planer and bandsaw they came on home-made bases similar to that. They have been working well for me. I posted pictures in link below, the bandsaw pic is on the second page.
Wish me luck

So true about the motor Bill. It's probably just what he had available.

Thanks Ron! I'd love to see all the components connecting the motor to the band saw if you get a chance.

Here is the motor inside the stand.

and the pulley on the bandsaw.

No idea why the second photo insists on laying down, must be something caused by the IPhone.

I bought it that way but the original owner did a great job.

Thanks Ron. You're right the builder did a nice job. It looks doable if I can find all the rods and pulleys. If I'm reading the pulleys correctly you've got it at the slowest speed. Do you ever change speeds?
