Hands On
I am looking for a copy of the May/June 1982 issue of Hands On magazine.
Specifically, I am looking for the “Under Mark V storage” article.
I have one page (14), but it's just the cut list.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hands On
This is my version of the revised under Mark V cabinet as seen on my 1954 Shopsmith.
I used 3/4" maple plywood instead of the 1/2" that was recommended and I used a 14" sheet on the back.
I believe in overkill with somethings, note the 3 stringers on the bottom of the cabinet.
The drawers are 3", 4 1/2" and 6" deep.
I haven't put any shelves behind the doors yet, still working on the layout for saw blades and a rack for the lathe tools.
Thanks to Mike907 and Iyall for the info and ideas.

Re: Hands On
That looks really slick! This was my attempt:

Turned out nice, but I wish I had gone for drawers in the center area, kind of like yours on the right side.
Also, good call on the 3/4", Nothing like going more secure in my opinion. Go big or go home!
Nice Job

Re: Hands On
The thing I do not like about this cabinet is that your feet run into the cabinet when you get up close to the Mark V; kind of like having kitchen cabinets with no toe kick.
Re: Hands On
I don't have issues with it. The table doesn't stop at the tubes, so there is a hang over anyways. Essentially a really big toe kick. Now when the table is off for lathe mode, maybe... But I am not a Turner like some here, maybe they can enlighten us.stephen_a._draper wrote:The thing I do not like about this cabinet is that your feet run into the cabinet when you get up close to the Mark V; kind of like having kitchen cabinets with no toe kick.
For nearly a year now with mine I have yet to hinder anything, well, if I close the doors on the cabinet.
For the record mine is on a 520, I guess the 500 could be different.
