Carter Guides for resawing

Post by putttn »

I'm going to set up my band saw for resawing and have heard positive results with the Carter guides. The "drift" thing really frustrated my efforts along with a lot of rookie errors on my part. I own a Hegner scroll saw so I don't need the SS for scroll work. I also have heard that the WoodSlicer blade is a good choice for resawing. How have you fellas done with the Carter upgrade?

I had good success when resawing by using the Bandsaw Blade Guide Double Bearing Upgrade Package listed on Ebay. I lightly honed the back of the saw blade so the groove between the bearings kept the blade steady and from flexing side to side. I believe this works as well as the Carter Stablizer update for less money.

Lol... I did that search and you're right, there are quite a bunch of opinions. I was hoping by now there'd be a trend of likes/dislokes.
Since i don't want to have to fuss with the drift issue it sounds like most of those that have the Carter have evaded that setup?? Also, i have the old cast ieon table

My experience so far (which is minimal) I get best results with a little more tension on the blade than "normal". If the blade was bowing or drifting excessively, a little more tension seemed to do the trick.

I can say I really like the wood slicer blade.

Drift? I cannot help there. Haven't done enough resawing to experience it(or perhaps my blade is still too sharp to drift :D ). I do however think technique has an effect. Maintain solid contact with the fence/reference 'nubbin' right in front of the blade teeth.
