JB Weld on the headstock

Regarding the 3 screw's that hold the control dial into the headstock, the threads for all three seem to be shot. Anyone have this issue? The screws will grab, but barely. Should I just tap in new/bigger threads and get new screws to fit? Or JB Weld up the holes, drill new ones and thread those?

I don't know much about metals, but would something like JB Weld be good for this type of metal?

If your hands are not too big, it is easy just to add nuts to the screws on the inside of the casing as the speed control bracket is not often removed. I did not have any success just using JB Weld to hold the nuts or make new threads, Casing was too thin for good threads.

I have smaller size Helical-coil kits with various size taps, tools and Helical-coil inserts that I use when the aluminum threads has been damaged. I really had good success using the Helical-coils for Shopsmith repairs. I use JB Weld, like a glue, to hold the Helical-coils in the aluminum casing and use a standard tap to clear the inside threads of the Helical-coil of any extra JB Weld. Well adding nuts to the backside is about the best option I COULDN'T have thought of. Great idea! So simple, ha.

I've never actually used JB Weld, so that would have been a first.

A seller on Ebay (simon*e) uses steel nut inserts in the casting where the speed assembly attaches. He has some nice pictures of this "improved and upgraded headstock". In addition to this improvement he install A full round cable holder using a secured countersink screw and lock nut.
