SS Planers
So today since I have one now, I watched the SS video on blade changes/setting. I am amazed they dont have a jig out for setting blade height. I have one, from Ryobi,a for my old Ryobi, it looks like a ruler, but has a step in it that runs the length of it, you insert the blade into the roller, set the gauge against the roller, pull the blade tight to the step on the gauge and tighten the locking screws.

The Greatness officially starts
Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Re: SS Planers
SS certainly does have a blade setting jig. It comes with the planer. Call the MS, I am sure they are still available since the still sell the planer. There are other threads here on the same subject. BTW, it works just fine.ERLover wrote:So today since I have one now, I watched the SS video on blade changes/setting. Also, if you don't have one get the conical sanding disk and the jointer/ planer sharpening jig. It is great. It will take you longer to remove and replace the blades than it does to sharpen them to a razor edge.

Re: SS Planers
John, I saw him on the video using that jig, I think crude at best.
I bought the conical disk this fall when on sale, a great item when you need it.
Nephew has the one sharping jig, I know for chisels, I am not sure if itwill work on 12in planer blades, maybe SS has a couple different ones.

Re: SS Planers
This is what you want for sharpening planer blades. Works great. Some folks have also made their own out of wood.

Re: SS Planers
The 'chisel' jig and the planer/jointer jig are two different things.
Be aware there were two versions of the 'crude' device. The earlier one had a curved notch which eliminated the need for the scribe line. The curve matched the arc of the blade so it can be referenced at any angle.

The video was from 2007 if I remember right, so a new version of the tool maybe available, I need to go to the mother page.
