Re: Meet the newest member of my family
I am so confused
So many of my quotes here, I dont know how many ER guards I have for free. Maybe 3 for sure or 2.

The Greatness officially starts
Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Thank you kindly for your offer to help Steve, and I will take you up on that. I would buy those legs but I think Dick has his heart set on them so I will gladly defer. I'll get a set of metal legs sooner or later but for now I have the big pink behemoth on wheels supporting my 10E lathe.skou wrote:Tom, I may have some more experience with the Model 10 than most. (ER Lover may have me beat, though) Let me know what I can do to help you. I do have a set of metal legs as well as the casters not attached to a machine. You'll pay shipping, plus a dime or 4. steve

Fantastic! Great news, thanks Steve.skou wrote: once removed, the drive sleeve, with all its bearings will slip back in, with NO issues. Provided the headstock is clean. You need to be able to simply assemble this tool, as well as disassemble it. I work on cars 40 hours a week. Hans didn't build a car! steve

Sounds great ER-dude, thank you. From what I recall you live near Appleton or thereabouts, do you not? I live in St Paul and my son lives in Plymouth (WI) so I pass very near you several times a year. Let's keep in touch!ERLover wrote:I am so confusedSo many of my quotes here, I dont know how many ER guards I have for free. Maybe 3 for sure or 2.

Steve, skou wrote:Mike, once removed, the drive sleeve, with all its bearings willoldiron wrote:Tom, As JPG mentioned, The drive sleeve needs to be carefully pressed back into the headstock casting. You only need to tap on the outer bearing race to press it back in.
I also apply a very small amount of Indian Head type gasket sealer to the outside of both bearings races upon installation which will prevent any possible bearing spin inside the headstock bore.
Keep in mind, The drive sleeve bearings are basically "slip fit" back into the headstock.

When I re-assemble a headstock, the Indian, as well as his Head,
are NO WHERE around.

I have seen 10ER drive sleeve outer bearing races spin in the headstock upon start-up of the machine. As for the Indian head gasket material, I'm only talking about a narrow 1/4" strip applied to one spot on each of the outer bearing races just as a extra measure to prevent the race from spinning in the headstock and it would allow easy removal if needed.

Don't defer Tom, you have first dibs on them, and I only need the casters, I already have a set of metal legs, just need to get some casters, you need both, so go for it, I will find some (or make an equivalent setup).tomsalwasser wrote:Thank you kindly for your offer to help Steve, and I will take you up on that. Re: Meet the newest member of my family
I have not torn a ER apart, or a restoration, just dismantled, all of mine came running and in good shape except for some rust on the way tubes, and I redid speed changers. Actually more experience on a Greenie, I had to replace belts and some bearings on that one.
