Here on the forum, OCSD stands for "Obsessive Compulsive Shopsmith Disorder" and a whole bunch of us here got it... Watch out, It might get you too!!!

One day the shop looks fine, The next day you look around and say "OMG" I've been bitten too.

As one of the other members said just the other day, Who has time to use the tools when your constantly making room for the latest one...???...

Thank you for the responses, I've been watching some of Jacob Anderson's videos on YouTube and I have a feeling the bearings need to be replaced. I saw someone selling a set of bearings and drive belts on eBay for $150, is there a place to get a set of bearings cheaper than that? The drive belts look to be in pretty good shape, it's got one of those Gilmer tank tread belts on it.

I don't know if it's showing on my profile or not, but I live in Peculiar, MO, just south of Kansas City.

Now DIY, the bearings can be gotten for less than $25 total. The belts are available from the mother ship. Belt dressing will help with sets.

Well, that's a whole lot better than $150. I see the belts for sale through the website, but no info on the bearings - does anyone have a list of what's needed for a 1956?

Using http://www.shopsmith.com/service/mark/index.htm these diagrams and part numbers, you can determine what you will need. Personally, I would diagnose the problem to first determine if you actually have a problem and then determine what the issue really is THEN fix it. I have never been one to just throw parts at a machine to "fix" it, but that is just me.

Order by the bearing numbers.
Get the belts from Shopsmith direct.

Drive sleeve bearings 25 x 52 x 15 mm shielded

Quill bearing (only one!) 5/8" x 35 x 11 mm shielded

Motor bearing 17 x 40 x 12 mm sealed

All can be sealed if you wish.

Various manufacturers use differing part numbers.

You can usually save yourself some shipping costs and lost time by going down to your local bearing house; this allowed me to get my Greenie up an running a lot quicker!
