Commercials I just fail to understand

Post by charlese »

There are at least three companies that suggest I make better investments by changing my paper money investments to gold and silver.

This is something I just don't understand!

The commercials tell me that paper money is about to lose value, but gold and silver will retain their value and possibly increase. They also tell me that wise investors have lots of silver and gold.

So what do they want me to do? - - They want me to send them some of my worthless money to them and they will send me coins of gold and/or silver.

So, if these companies are so smart, why would they accept my "worthless" money for some of their metal???

Is it because they spent too much money making these coins, and now want to recoup some of their losses by selling me their coins at a profit? Their profit!!

Oh Charlese, back in the 80s I was read an article in Play Boy, believe it or not!! It was titled "To your Stock Brokers Boss, He is just a Sales Man, and has to sell the Loosers and the Winners"'!!!!
I know you are a wise man, and assume you know the investment/portfolio pyramid as far as what and how much should be where, depending on age, precious metals is at the tip for more invested/older investors.
Did you ever notice how many prescription drug commercials during the National news!!

Then there is tho one that says, "If silver returns to it's previous high..." which was when the Hunt brothers paid almost $50 an ounce and lost a billion dollars. Previous high? In your dreams (and their commercials).

Or the best one, "When the market crashes" you want gold. Really? How are you going to be able to spend that gold? Especially when they don't actually send you the gold but only send you a piece of paper (or electronic certificate) telling you that you have an investment position.

Five years ago the University of Texas invested 1 billion of it's 20 billion endowment in gold at $1486 per oz. Today the price of gold is $1130. UT has lost $31,500,000.00.

There Dean of Economics must teach the buy high and sell low theory, That was one of golds highest prices, silver was up there too then.

Then there is the storage problem. Ever seen a million dollars in gold ? Better have a really big and very secure safe. There is also an inherent danger in keeping that amount of valuables around. We just recently had an individual who is a church acquaintance bound and tortured to death for the combo to the safe in a city here in SoCal.

OK! So the worst happens and paper $ are only good for heat.

What ya gonna do with a pile of soft shiny metal?

Who's gonna trade ya food(or whatever) for it?

Key word there is trade! That will be the currency then - bartering!

Full circle!!!
