New Mark V Owner

Post by 75kona »

Just picked up a Mark V over the weekend. Didn’t even know these tools existed until last weekend. I’m located in Washington State and was helping a friend move from his beach house on the coast and walked into the town store. On the bulletin board out front was an add with phone number on pull tabs and a picture and description. My wife has wanted to get into wood working and for Christmas I got her a cheap Ryobi table saw and a few sanders. This unit was purchased new by him in 1997 and has the usual attachments along with the jig saw attachment. Came with several new blades for both the saw and jigsaw as well as lots of sanding pads and extra lath knifes along with the originals. Manual and all extra gadgets included. Looked around at prices in my area I paid what I would say is a little more that I should have. Probably could have waited and shopped around but it was so well taken care of I couldn’t pass it up. He was asking $475 and I walked away with it for $400. Took it home this weekend when we made the journey down to finish moving him and its sitting in the shop at home waiting to be played with.

Wife was very surprised when I brought it back and excited. I’m sure I will be using it just as much as her. We just moved to our forever home and it has a 32’x48’ shop so I have the room for standalone machines. But this way I have plenty of room for other junk to store in there! Sorry for the long into… Looking forward to using the lath as that is something I have never even thought I would own.

Welcome to the forum Kona... Watch out, Once you and your wife start playing with the machine, You'll probably start looking for a second machine especially with the size of your shop!!!!!!

Who knows, You may end up like some us with a case of OCSD(aka, Obsessive Compulsive Shopsmith Disorder)....

Thanks! Its funny you mention that… my shop has a 12’x48’ covered area that runs down the side with a dirt floor.. I have been thinking lately about walling it off, pouring a floor, and cutting a door and making it a separate wood shop if we really get into it. I have a Auto lift in the big bay which takes up a little room. Would love to have a dedicated space. Thought about using the loft area but that would involve going up and down stairs with material and the wife would have none of that!

You say OCSD like it's a bad thing... And who says I have a problem? My shopsmiths fix my problems. Both of em... Or are you just saying that cause you want to sell yours? If so, how much? J/k lol

Well with both a bandsaw and the 510 upgrade, the 'deal' is more reasonable. Looks like there may be some other goodies in the pile etc..

If it IS a greenie, the drive and motor become a question.(upgraded?)
