Re: Out with the New and in with the Old
I have seen I believe just one on ebay and that was sometime ago. And to be honest I don't know if it was original or not since I don't know what they look like, just read the sellers description.
I don't worry much about the lower guard but I do worry about having pulley and belts running unguarded at the other end. The 10ER I got for my brother came without that, I found one on ebay and got that before I turned it over to him. My second one came with a guard so some in the next while I will have mine running and guarded at least at the top side.

Re: Out with the New and in with the Old
I haven't in person, but when I posed that question there was a rather humble 10ER for sale on CL, over in Dayton. In one of the photos, there was a pile of parts that included what I suspected was the mythical lower saw guard. It looked just like this photo, which Google found when I searched "Shopsmith 10ER lower saw guard".JPG wrote:More to the point, who has actually seen one?BuckeyeDennis wrote:Does anyone know what those 10E/R lower saw guards sell for, if and when they do come up for sale?
Looking very closely at one of the CL photos, there also appeared to be a speed changer, almost hidden on the outboard side of the headstock. The asking price was down to $150, so I was contemplating a trip to Dayton. Not that I need any more 10ER stuff, but I though it would be cool to get the saw guard.
The CL ad was taken down shortly after I posed that question.

Re: Out with the New and in with the Old
I saw that one as well.
Skip Campbell made one I know of for 10". I just never found one for sale for an ER made by Magna that I could identify
He also adapted the newer tables to accommodate them on an ER. Lot of work it looks like.
I was just contemplating trying to find an OEM if one was ever made.

I have ever actually seen one. I did see the one on eBay that Ed mentioned and it looked exactly like the picture Buckeyedennis posted. I actually bid on it but didn't get it. As I remember it went for around $300 +-$25.JPG wrote:More to the point, who has actually seen one?BuckeyeDennis wrote:Does anyone know what those 10E/R lower saw guards sell for, if and when they do come up for sale?

I certainly don't need any more 10ER stuff. However, the lower saw guard is the only thing I don't have. I would not hesitate for a second to pay $150 just to get the saw guard. If another one comes up on eBay I am pretty sure it will go for more than $150.BuckeyeDennis wrote:I haven't in person, but when I posed that question there was a rather humble 10ER for sale on CL, over in Dayton. Strange as it seems, that pix looks familiar. I had forgotten. Apparently I have seen a pix of that before.
I also surmise it had a tendency to rotate since the Mark 5 version has a arm that leans on the bench tube. It also has a more pronounced exit port.

Remembering from the one on eBay the exit port is rectangular.JPG wrote:Strange as it seems, that pix looks familiar. I had forgotten. Apparently I have seen a pix of that before.

You jogged my memory Chris. That is the one (only one) on eBay talked about in previous posts. I said earlier around $300 but you are right. I bid $150 and got out bid and could not get another bid in.
That is not a bad price since that is the only one I have ever seen on eBay and I check eBay daily and have for years. Heck, speed changers go for $150 all the time and they are way more common.
