I thought the arbor/nut were interfering with the tie bar.

With a shallower nut, the stack will be closer to the end of the arbor thus increasing left side clearance by the difference in the nut thicknesses.

Ah, yes, I see your thinking now. The problem would be that there are only certain thickness standard spacers/washers available to go to the left of the stack so a thinner jam nut would not change the left side registration, which wouldn't clear the insert.

The real solution to this is a custom table insert.

OK it is starting to come back to me. The reason I didn't have a problem is that I left the table insert out......... and that was because I was using a sled so the insert wasn't really needed. It did cause other problems due to the lift assist and the depth of cut to accommodate the extra 3/4" of material from the sled but then I took care of that by removing the left assist.

I would not leave out the table insert if I were just cutting on the main table but the sled covers things so I don't see that as an issue.
