M5 or 500 - if so do you have the front miter gauge table extension?aireclyde wrote:Tried cutting 45* angle wide boards but didn't feel safe so used circular saw is there a way to cut 45 angle in 2 directions on board safely suggestions see how to cut thinner boards. But 12" boards don't cut on it.

Do you have a copy of Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone? The PTWFE is the bible for shopsmith owners.
Take a look at the sawing chapters they might help.
If you don't have a copy it is a good investment but they do have an online version that you can find here:

Re: cutting wide boards
There are a few things you can do to increase your cross cut capacity when cross-cutting miters, bevels or compound miter cross-cuts.
First, make sure you have only as much blade above the table as is needed to cut your stock. Reducing unneeded blade above the table increases the amount of area between the front of the blade and the edge of the table.
Second, if you have an older model Mark 5, there is a miter gauge extension you can purchase.
Third, you can use a miter sled, like the Incra Miter Express or Incra Miter 5000. Both come in a version that fits the Shopsmith's miter slot. You can straigh cross-cut up to 24" wide with one of these. I'm not sure what the miter cross-cut capacity is, I'll try to measure it tonight.

One solution would be to build a cross cut sled. Inexpensive solution that you will find many uses for. There are quite a few posts on the subject. Take a look at them and let us know if you have any questions.
