What are you going to do with your extra day this year?

Post by reible »

Always a good thing to plan ahead so if nothing else this could be a fun post for some of the less conventional people here.

We all know that every 4 years (modern history) we add a day to the end of February giving it 29 days. So it is rather like having an extra day. I know a few time is my working life I took the day off. One of my sons and his wife decided to get married on that day back in 2008....

This year I think I will get a shiny new tool, or at least order it on that day. May decide to go to Culver's for custard if one of the close ones have a flavor I like.........

So anyone have plans?

I figure that extra day this month just means that we have a long Winter this year.

Does the extra day mean we get more Social Security?

No, it means you have to wait one day longer for the same check next month. :D That is not true. Next month's check actually comes one calendar day earlier than this month's did.

On the 29th I will remember my late uncle who taught me much, through humor, satire, and by experience when I didn't listen through the years.

One of his verbal quips was that they give us an extra day every four years as the Presidential election cycle is spinning up around primary time.

He said to use this extra day wisely, as it was important since it likely was a run-off election. I must have looked puzzled, and asked how was it that was possible.

He smiled, glanced up at me and said they're really all run-off elections. We are going to run-off this bunch, and elect that bunch that we will run-off later...

I chuckled then, but suspected then as now that all of us, regardless of our views through the years can likely understand exactly what he was teaching me.

Well John and Charlese you stole my thunder, I get mine on the 3rd unless the 3rd is a Sunday or Holiday, but seems Feb or March it comes early no matter what.
What am I going to do? Get an extra older this year then the other 3.

Are you referring to Social Security checks (SS :D )? My SS payday is the second Wednesday of every month according to SS but the money is always in my account on Tuesday. Is there a difference on when they pay you based on when you retired/applied?

My SS checks come on the second Wednesday of the month but I know my brothers comes later in the month. My birthday is earlier in the month and his later so maybe that has something to do with it? I think I recall seeing something to that effect but maybe that was for something else entirely???

My retirement checks come at the end of the month so I get paid twice a month which is rather nice.
