WoodRiver No. 91 Small Shoulder Plane anyone own one?
I'm looking over my tool list for this coming year and one item I have on the list is a small shoulder plane. After pricing some really nice ones that simple are too rich for me I came across this one.
http://www.woodcraft.com/product/159001 ... plane.aspx
I'd love to have some of those other guys planes but they are out of my price range, this one however is in my price range.
I own a small brass one but it is getting to be uncomfortable to use so I was thinking these look they would be a lot easier on your hand. You younger guys don't understand yet but trust me it becomes important for some of us as we age.
If not this one then which one and keep in mind the approximate price point.

Ed I have looked and looked too, because I do a lot of M&T joints. For the tenons I make my first cut for the shoulder on the table saw, then use the band saw to ruff out the rest, then the router in the table to clean that up. I want one, but I just cannot get my self to spend that kind of $ on one. If I need to clean up a tenon for that perfect fit I just use one of my bench chisels.
Funny thing though, I can afford it, and I spend allot of time in slippers and I like a clog style for easy in and out. I was looking for the perfect one and going to spend a few extra $ on a good pair, I figure last me the rest of my life, The LL Bean Elk hide at 80$ just did not fit right, ended up with these for 120$ Love em. But happy using my bench chisel on the tenons. Go figure.

Ed, Oh Ed, you tease you, My WC Saturday has a Earlex sprayer demo at 1pm, which I am going to, just cant figure out if I want and how useful it would be for my use of finishing, and a 20% off coupon for any one store item at regular price, excluding some stuff.
It could be like Saint Nicks Eve, put my slippers out and find a shoulder plane in it, maybe, need to give it some practical thought, with the coupon cheaper then the slippers.

Woodcraft has 3 sizes of these, I'm looking at the smaller one and it would be used for getting inside a groove/dado to clean things up. They make chisels for this purpose too but that is not how I want to go.
For slipper, well I have grandchilden to shop for me. So I get what I get.

Re: WoodRiver No. 91 Small Shoulder Plane anyone own one?
Ed, I disavowed, it was so nice out and mom slept till 1130, and her brunch/lunch takes about 45 minutes, and since it was going to be 55* today and wanted to get her out walking, and sunshine, Vitamin D, and the neighbors that walk and are concerned, mom has lived here for 40 years come this summer, they bought the house here in summer of 76, great neighbors, both young and old care about her.
Anyway, did not go to WC, the sprayer demo will be around again, and the 91 will be waiting for me, but I can do it with a bench chisel. Just remember a plane is just a chisel with a machined holder/support.

$20 off $200 from 2/26 thru 2/29 at Woodcraft. Use code Leap16.
Re: WoodRiver No. 91 Small Shoulder Plane anyone own one?
I wish I had $200 to spend yet this month. My months runs from the 4th to the 4th and I have spent all I can until the 4th of March.jle wrote:$20 off $200 from 2/26 thru 2/29 at Woodcraft. Use code Leap16.
However Woodcraft is having a spring sale with 10% to 25% off on everything*.
The * means not everything like Festools etc.... It runs March 4 and 5 only.
So I might be spending a few bucks there next month.

Re: WoodRiver No. 91 Small Shoulder Plane anyone own one?
I can't answer many questions about this plane but I have one sitting next to me as I type this.
I was at the woodcraft store again this morning and laid my money down for one. The sale help a small bit, regular price is $129.99 and the sale price is/was (the sale is still on tonight and tomorrow) $110.49 (15% off).
I'll sharpen it and give it a try and then report back what I think of it.
Just from looks it seems well made, not exceptional but then I wasn't expecting that for the price. The blade is slightly wider then the body so it should be good at nice square edges.
