Paint drying...moving on to the speed control/quadrant assy.

I will need to replace the quadrant assy (enough wear that for $22 bucks I prefer to have it new!) so my question are the "ears" that hold the quad assy. I would like to either bend them or put a washer to take up the gap. What is the preferred method? And back in 2011 Bill Mayo offered/suggested a bolt replacement for the roll pin. Is this still the preferred fix? Bolt size? Instructions? Thanks!

When I rebuilt my Greenie I used Bill's bolt replacement instead of the old roll pin and I think it operates smoother now then it ever did. I highly recommend upgrading!

The second PDF down is a document that I reassembled with good photos that Bill Mayo did in a series of posts. Hopefully it is easier to read than the screen, and you can print it out in color for reference.

I've started to assemble the headstock. It's coming together smoothly. Based on all the talk about which groove to put the poly-v belt ('62 headstock) I took extra time making sure the belt was straight...it turned out evenly at two grooves per side.

Well, my father always said "measure once, cut twice!" ...or was it...???

Revisited the poly-v belt alignment, and after rereading Dusty's technique, decided that it actually should be on the third groove for "the planet's to all line up"! Much happier now.

I also added a second washer on the idler pulley eccentric due to the screw not wanting to seat all the way.

JPG...I stand (humbly) corrected!!! From the second picture, would you say the alignment is correct? I moved the belt until I had no "bend" as the belt traveled from one pulley to the next. I was very satisfied that it was straight. From the third picture, it seems that the idler bearing and eccentric bushing are in the correct position. Do you agree?

The belt appears flat in the second pix.

The eccentric is correctly positioned in the third pix.

Not knowing which idler shaft you have I cannot say re the idler shaft/bearing. That said, it does not look 'out of place'.

If you have the water pump bearing, the groove locates the bearing within the eccentric. Since you do not have the second screw on the eccentric, I assume that is the case.
