Model 500 table inserts in a Model 510?
I have a lot of table inserts for a Model 500 table. I have no inserts beyond the standard Mark 510 table insert. Is there a way to modify the Model 500 inserts to fit a Model 510 table?

That would be way more work then it is worth and even then it might not be to your liking. As you will have found the 500 insert is an oval and not nearly as long as the 510/520 inserts that have a squared end.
I'm going to be running off so I don't have the time to look up some references for you but if you search for posts on ZCI (zero clearance inserts) you might find them to your liking and they are do it yourself projects that don't cost much to make if you don't want them to.
The point is you can buy them from shopsmith or off ebay or you can make your own, which ever way you go is up to you.

Thank you. That's pretty much what I figured but thought I'd see if anyone else out there had any innovations.

I'm in the same boat. The second SS I bought was a 500 and had lots of fixin's, but many were 500-only. I ordered from SS because the one I wanted wasn't on eBay and I was too lazy to wait around. BUT moreover, I was really too lazy to make my own, which looks to be a reasonably simple affair.

The major stumbling block is the mounting hole spacing.
A show stopper IMHO!

I don't believe so (I don't have a 500) but making inserts for the 510 should be a fun weekend undertaking.Dave H. (CO) wrote:I have a lot of table inserts for a Model 500 table. A "500" is round on both ends(3" diameter).
The mounting hole spacing is 12 1/4".
The overall length is 12 15/16.
No room for riving knife nor upper saw guard.
I do not see it happening.
