db5,
great info. Ya I saw a thing on TV about this for parents to get it so there kids using the car, it is disabled, I think they mention a possible insurance discount with some companies.
Funny thing just came to me, a buddy of mine was a ham radio junkie and was in a HR club and in the 80s they had a guest speaker about cell phones when they were just coming out. Said, they are/will be unaffordable except for the rich and where an employer pays for it for an executive.
AS I SAY, "Never say Never"

A little history: In 1947 AT&T developed the technology for cellular phones. They contracted with McKensey & Company to determine how many customers they would have by 2000. Mckensey's number was 200,000. AT&T decided to not pursue this business. So, with the breakup of AT&T this fell into the public domain and in 1980 people like Craig McCaw, Bell South, and others started building the system. Phones were $500 - $1000 and there was a $50 activation fee, two year contract and charges of 50 cents per minute and 20 cents for nighttime. In 1996 there were 63 million users in the US and rates were as low as 10 cents. In 1994 Craig McCaw sold his company to AT&T for $11.5 billion. In 2000 there were 110 million subscribers.
