So What Am I Up To (since I can't work in the shop)

Good to hear you are wanting to get into the shop. after my heart surgery I really didn't feel like doing anything for over a year.
Just don't rush yourself, and listen to your body. and rest when you feel like it. I tell my kids it is time for my old man nap, and they know to let me have some time to rest.

Thanks to ALL for the good wishes and warm thoughts. I am doing much much better than I had been. I only nap for about 1hr in the early afternoon (shortly after lunch). I can get around in the malls now where before I hardly had the stamina to go to the mail box and back. Yes, I am getting closer to making sawdust.

The challenge now is getting my wife to believe that I have gotten that much better.

plan some projects, or if you have some thoughts on some, work on the material list, drawings, ect, keep the mind a busy and working.
At moms I dont have my drafting stuff here and the other day drew up my router cabinet to scale with a regular ruler, 16/16s to the inch scale, and drew it up on 1/4 " = 1" that was an eye and mind bender.
Get healthy and out there B4 the heat kicks in.

How does using the computer and doing sketchup drawings feel? Might be a nice time to brush up on some of those skills if you are up to it.

My last operation has almost been a year ago, a different problem then you have/had but I had to visit the thoracic surgeon in case it became necessary to crack things open to get the wayward parathyroid that was malfunctioning. I had to sign the papers authorizing it but was fortunate to have it where it still could be reached from above.

I had no idea what was involved with that sort of surgery, quite an eye opening. It funny as the doctors talk about it as an everyday sort of event, well for them I guess it is. For us every day people it is scary to say the least.

Anyway it good to see you posting more and getting your head back into woodworking. May the progress be swift.

Scary is not the word. I was scared to death.

Actually, as I have said before, surgery was a piece of cake. I hardly hurt at all...until it was about time to leave the hospital. I think that is when the morphine was discontinued. Then there is recovery (don't sneeze or cough) and then cardiac rehab.

But that is behind me and now I need sawdust.

I hope you get ready to work soon. A Shopsmith that sits around and isn't making sawdust is a crime. We have to do our part to help prevent crime.

I be there soon, gary. I spent about an hour in the shop earlier today. All I did was put a few small things back where they belong. This is one of the reasons why I do not like to have anyone in my shop unless I am there. Things like screw drivers and rulers all have a place where they belong. Admittedly, that place may be logical only to me but, well....

I just ended up roaming around the shop, grabbing up things (mostly 'tools'), throwing them in a pile on the work bench and then putting the pile where it belongs, one piece at a time.

The shop is a long way from a safe work area still. But I will get there in the next couple weeks.

Wow, Sorry for coming to the party so late! This hit or miss time on the forum means I miss lots.

Glad to read you are able to "get eyes" on the shop. There is something calming about just getting to check out the stuff, though I then start making too many to-do lists.

I remember about 30 years ago when Dad had his "zipper" surgery. They gave him a heart shaped pillow to squeeze to his chest when he had to cough. We were watching some TV show and he started to laugh.... It nearly caused him to start crying in pain!!

I hope you soon get the all clear, from the docs!

Yeah, I have the heart shaped pillow. Until a couple days ago, I carried it around with me in a small cloth bag. Using it does not eliminate all the discomfort one experiences when coughing/sneezing but it still helps. Holding the pillow and coverig up when sneezing is a trick I did not master.

The doctors have told me that I can now do whatever my body will allow. But then there is SWMBO. She is not as liberal.
