Homemade Dust Extractor

Post by megastevo81 »

G'day all

Not sure if this is the right section to post this. I have just completed building a timber dust cyclone, its made mostly of recycled Oregon and hardwood. The cyclone is sanded smooth inside and clear coated several times. Will see how it holds up inside.

Filters were a bit of a challenge to find locally, I ended up using commercial refrigeration/air conditioning filters.

Not completely built with my shopsmith as I don't have the bandsaw atachment. The jointer sure made it easier than using a hand plane to prepare the stock for cutting to final dimensions.

So far it's working really well with no fine dust ending up in the filter box. I regret not taking any progress pictures, its almost too nice to use :p

Thanks for looking

Marty

That easily is the most beautiful dust cyclone I've ever seen! Tell us about how it was built (for instance, what's the joinery you used to make the cone portion of the cyclone).

Never dreamed of this application in wood! Very innovative, and remarkable craftsmanship.

Like others here I would love to see your build sequence and photos if you have them.

Well done. Inspiring!

Ever made wooden barrels? :D

I think that cyclone is more difficult!

That took a lot of patience.

Kudos!!!

Great job. As you said, it is almost too nice to use. That is just way neat.

Other than being gorgeous, you know what I really like about that approach?

Not having to find an adapter to fit your hoses!
