Band Saw Lubricants

I have been doing my annual maintenance on my SS equipment. On my band saw it calls for cup or furnace bearing grease. I have some white lithium grease. Does anyone see a problem with using this instead?

The band saw also calls for the use of powdered graphite. I have problems getting a uniform coat of the powder where it goes without getting it every where. I have taken to mixing it with denatured alcohol then using a small brush or q-tip to apply it. The alcohol will evaporate and leave a uniform coating of graphite on the items. Maybe this will help someone else with the same problem.

Furnace grease is an old term. A good quality wheel bearing grease for the needle bearings in the upper wheel is OK. IIRC furnace grease was used on cast iron furnaces as an anti seizing compound for nuts and bolts. I would not use the lithium grease. I don't know if the lithium can stand up to the rotational speed.

I am not sure where this fits in under recommendations for lubrication but I used anti-seize mixed with 10W oil during my band saw rebuild. I coated the bearing with it and so far, I have not had any issues.
