The eight dimension coughs up a set screw and

Post by reible »

I'm cleaning up in my shop and there on the floor is a set screw. Now over the last years I must have lost at least a dozen set screws, I figured that they must have fallen in worm hole and were billions and billions of light years away by now.

So what is this set screw doing here on the floor all of a sudden?? I pick it up and it is a cone point.......... not likely from the shopsmith and I don't have any idea where it came from. It was not under a piece of machinery nor have I had any other tools pulled out or have I been working on any thing for the last while.

So for now I'm thinking that this must have come back through a worm hole but got the address wrong and appeared in my shop rather by random chance. Anyway I'm going to keep it and maybe I find a use for it someday.

I'm going to check that area of the floor more often who knows maybe I'll get lucky and find something really good. Then of course perhaps the worm hole moved on to another location........ drat the luck.

Ed, as we and others have discussed about a clean and orderly shop in another thread, if in my shop the floor is clean, and would beable with some thought say Hum, what was around that area I have used, and within a day it would have come to me. It happened once with a Key Way on my Craftmans BS, did a pulley/belt move for a speed change on it, a day or 2 later I find this 1/4" key way near it on the floor, then the saw would stall when cutting. The light came on, the motor shaft had a key way on it that a set screw held it tight with the pulley. Sho nuff, running with out force/cutting all turned, but when cutting the motor shaft would slip in the pulley because no key way.

Maybe it was abducted by aliens and they finally returned it to Earth and as you eluded to, "got the wrong address".

I'm pretty sure aliens exist and have some sort of fetish for socks and set screws so the cone head thing is making sense, I do have French ancestry so there might be the connection.

Probably 15 or more years ago the exact same thing happened to me. I was still working out of my garage. I finished up for the day and started to move things to one side to be able to put the truck in. Under the 510 on the floor was a setscrew. Hmm... I looked over the machine, nothing missing. Had not used anything else that had set screws. It was a 5/16-18 SS type set screw. I never found where it came from and the 510 has been upgraded over the years to a 520 double tilt Power Pro. Wierd!!!

Ah you found it! I dropped that yesterday and it completely disappeared. Figured it fell into a worm hole and it would show up in some Shopsmithers shop.

Nay! It was my spare cone point set screw I kept in case I needed it for the speed control.
Just went from my shop to Reible's shop by the Shopsmith worm hole. Magic! :D
