Medicare will cost me more annually. How is that possible?![]()
You have prepaid the premium for Medicare Part A (Hospitalization) by working for at least 40 quarters (ten years). It is that item on your paycheck that says "Medicare". Part B (out patient care) has a means tested premium. For those of us in the lowest bracket that premium is 25% of the actual cost. If you want additional insurance (Medigap or Medicare Advantage) you need Part B. Those insurance plans are not available if you do not have B.
So Medicare is not "free". There is no doubt that the Federal government subsidizes Medicare substantially. Consequently we pay for it out of pocket as well as through our taxes.
BTW, I have interpreted your comment as sarcasm, and that you know it isn't free.
